ABOUT THE ARTIST

The artist - The passion
Rose’s creative nature was evident at a young age. It has always been her passion to observe and express the beauty around her through art. Under the advice of her art teacher her mother enrolled her in art classes where Rose found comfort and inspiration from students and teachers alike. During these early art classes and many others that followed she developed her talents under the guidance of skilled teachers as she discovered her love of depicting nature and figures.

A recipient of the Ohio Youth Governors Art Award, Rose went on to study art at the Nationally accredited, Columbus College of Art and Design where she majored in illustration and minored in fine art. Offered a job at Hallmark Cards she almost moved from her home town of Columbus Ohio to Kansas City but decided to travel with husband throughout Europe instead. Soon after their return from Europe they pursued their dream of starting their careers (her art- his architecture) on the West Coast and San Diego became their home. Rose began her career in San Diego as a graphic designer and was one of the first generation Mac users in the country. Embracing technology and art she moved on to be an art director and designer for print, web, and multimedia. Throughout her 20 + year career in the design industry she has worked with high tech clients such as Qualcomm, to educational clients such as McGraw-Hill and Highlights for Children, along with many business to business accounts of great diversity. She worked as Art Director and head designer for Horizons Companies where she ran their west coast design team: http://www.horizonscompanies.com/home.html . Then she founded Rose Creative and Design and Brand Creation company where she still takes on some projects and consulting: Rose Creative Design.

Throughout her graphics career Rose missed painting and began to revisit her early passion in fine arts and painting. She enjoys painting ethereal seascapes from the coast of California and the rich and rugged displays of light and beauty that came to her from the Baja California, Mexico desert and the Sea of Cortez, where she is now partner in an artist retreat called The Casa de Claro. Painting in “plein air” has renewed her passion for painting. As each painting emerges on canvas it is her intent to capture the essence of the moment and the natural beauty of terrestrial light and spirit.

Currently Rose is painting weekly in Southern California and Baja, Mexico along with studio figure and portraiture as she is actively pursuing her career as a painter and arts instructor. Her soulful paintings depict subject matter that is as diverse as she, ranging from landscapes and seascapes to figurative work and ballerinas. As mother of three children has she has compassion and the poignancy of each day on Earth. The life experience of being and artist and a mother contributes to her perceptive teaching style.

She continues to find inspiration from living artists and mentors and is active in continuing her art studies in classes and workshops with master artists: Jeff Watts, Robert Watts, Jeremy Lipking, Calvin Liang, and Carol Anderson. She is also influenced by Richard Schmid and Robert Coombs and the work of Masters: Joaquin Sorella, John Singer Sargent, Edgar Degas, Van Gogh, and Claude Monet; all of whose great skill, brushwork and art are truly gifts beyond words.

In the Ateleir tradition Rose finds it to be an honor to pass down the knowledge and craft others have taught her, and that has been passed down from generation to generation. In this day of digital reality and technology she feels it is important to make sure the next generation is given the opportunty to learn and feel what it is to create art from their own hands.
