In O’Keefe’s Footsteps

Painted from memory and my plein air studies from Abaquiu New Mexico. I had the opportunity to walk and paint among this arroyo amd these enchanted lands where Georgia O’Keefe lived, painted and drew her iconic inspiration from. This painting is created from that experience I had in the Autumn and from my memory. I wanted to capture that New Mexico light and sun filled colors which required me to keep this painting in the higher keys. I also was interested in painting the scubby textures of the Willows along the desert arroyo in contrast to the mirror like quality of the still water in the arroyo which was an opportunity to explore edges. It was a enjoyable journey painting this and I felt like Georgia was close by in spirit.
